Mission Statement:

Metchosin ArtPod is an artist-run collective and gallery located in the rural village of Metchosin, on Greater Victoria’s West Shore. We strive to support local visual artists by offering opportunities to learn, create, show, and sell original work, and to promote the health of our community by providing a venue for the public to engage with the Arts.

To meet our mandate, we offer:

  • Open calls for art submissions to artists in our region and beyond
  • Externally juried art shows and sales in a gallery setting
  • Show opening events, featured artist talks, and discussion forums
  • Weekly drop-in art sessions
  • Art workshops, resource networks and learning opportunities

Background:

Recognizing the depth of talent in the local arts community and noting the dearth of opportunities for engaging in collective artistic activities in the West Shore region of Greater Victoria, a small number of artists formed a collective: Metchosin ArtPod, and rented space in the Metchosin Arts and Cultural Centre Association heritage building in 2019. Since then, our group has been running a fully functioning gallery; organizing six open-call, juried art shows per year, representing artists from the Lower Island and beyond; coordinating art sales; running weekly drop-in art groups; and offering a number of workshops and art events to the community.
